At Aksa Energy, we are commited to preservation of local cultures in the regions where we operate. Aksa Energy Kalecik Power Plant holds a photography contest named Aksa Fotofest regularly in order to contribute to the world of culture and art in Northern Cyprus as well as to support the photograph artistry. Thanks to the competition organized with a different theme every year, amateur artists from Northern Cyprus have the opportunity to represent the local culture in different environments with their works. The traditional Aksa Fotofest photo competition aims to boost development of photograhy as a major art form in Northern Cyprus. Aksa Fotofest, which we initiated as a local initiative to motivate the photography artists in TRNC, we carried it to the international arena with a wider audience in 2019.
The themes of the Aksa Fotofest photo competition which was held for the 6th time in 2021 was determined as “Life in Cyprus”, “Nature” and "Free Style/Black and White" about of 700 photograhps evaluated 9 photos were awarded and 58 photos were considered worthy to be exhibited.
In the category of "Life in Cyprus", Ayşe Keçecioğlu won the first place with her work "Hamur İşi", Fatma Arca came second with her work "Sürü", and Mehmet Gökyiğit came third with his work "Hatırlamak Güzeldir".
In the Nature category, Başar Taşlı won the first place with his work “The King”, Cahit Arkut took the second place with his work “Çiçek”, and Mehmet Gökyiğit took the third place with his work “Twin Flow”.
In the Free/Color - Black and White category, Başar Taşlı won the first place again with his work “Zirvede”, and Erkan Çelikeri came second with his work “Hüzün” and Hüseyin Çekirdek took the third place with his work “Göz”.
The themes of the Traditional Aksa Fotofest photo competition which was held for the 5th time in 2020 was determined as “Human Portraits” and “Health&Hope”. Among a total of 1071 photograhps evaluated -the highest attandance for the competition- 5 photos were awarded and 36 photos were considered worthy to be exhibited. In the category of Human Portraits, Gökhan Gökberk was awarded with his work titled "The Mercy Anatolian Woman" and İmge İldem with "Embrace the Life". In the Health and Hope category, Gökhan Gökberk was awarded with his work "Queen" and Ahmet Harmancı with his work titled "Sinek". The Aksa Special Award of 2020 was given to Mehmet Çimenli with his work titled "Aksaçlı".
The theme of the competition which was held for the 4th time in 2019 was determined as Cyprus Culture. The competition panel evaluated 59 black- and white and 76 color photographs and at the end of the competition, 11 black-and-white and 11 color photographs were considered worthy to be exhibited.
The award ceremony and exhibition opening of the competition were held in Çayırova Village Lefkara House with the participation of TRNC Prime Minister Ersin Tatar and the Minister of National Education and Culture Nazım Çavuşoğlu.
The themes of the Aksa Fotofest photo competition which was held for the 3rd time in 2018 was determined as “Shadows and Silhouettes” and “Energy of the Street and People”. 179 photos competed in the “Shadows and Silhouettes” category and 180 photos competed in “Energy of the Street and People” category.19 and 29 photos were deemed eligible for exibition in both categories, respectively; and 3 photos were awarded in each category.
Aksa Fotofest photo competition, which was highly acclaimed after its debut in 2015, has been restructured as an international project, which will be organized annually in order to provide sustainable support to photograpy and Northern Cyprus culture since 2017 35 photographers competed with 230 photographs at the second edition of the competition, the theme of which was determined as “Environment” to underline the importance of environmental protection and combatting climate change.
